In
2002 UNESCO named the Mittelrheintal (middle-rhine-valley)
between Bingen and Koblenz a
world heritage site. There, where the Rhine is at its most
beautiful, a myriad of castles
decorate the cliffs next to breathtakingly steep vineyards.
The mythical Loreley – a
siren, who once lured sailors to their deaths, now lures
the tourists who want to experience
this stretch of the river’s romantic charm, as does
the unique: Rhein
in Flammen (Rhine in Flames) ,spectacle
when fire illuminates the valley and fireworks light up
the night sky.
At Lahnstein the river Lahn joins the Rhine. The Lahn and
the Taunus-hills offer ample opportunities for outdoor activity:
riverside walks, bike tours or hiking in the Taunus-woods.
