Westerwald is pure nature! One can hardly see the forest for the proverbial trees. The region is also considered to have one of the most beautiful lower-mountain ranges in Germany.

"Oh du schöner Westerwald! Über deinen Höhen pfeift der Wind so kalt…!“ "Oh, beautiful Westerwald! Over whose peaks the wind blows so cold!” or so the old folk song goes. The fresh cool air and large network of paths through woodland and countryside make this area ideal for long biking or hiking trips.

The best know towns in Westerwald are Montabaur and Höhr-Grenzhausen. The latter lies in the so called Kannenbäckerland (potter-land) which is well known for its ceramics.
