The Bengal-fire
night
On the first Saturday in May every year,
along the most beautiful stretch of the ‘romantic’ Rhine – from
Linz to Bonn – the festival season opens with
the "Rhein in Flammen am Siebengebirge" (Rhine
in flames).
Over 2000 Roman-candles
burn throughout the night on the river banks of the
towns and villages
between Linz
and Bonn. And a fleet of 60 illuminated ships is
floated down the river.
The high point of the celebrations is the fire work
displays in Linz, Remagen, Bad Honnef and the grand
finale in Bonn. In addition, each community has its
own programme of music, dance and regional specialities.
