The night of the Loreley

St. Goar and St. Goarshausen, twin towns near the Loreley, hold their wine festival on the third weekend in September. For three days one can taste sample wines from the Middle-Rhine region and visit the "Jahrmarkt der Jahrhundertwende" (turn-of-the-century market).

Every year around 10 000 visitors and over 70 ships congregate to experience the night of the Loreley: The facades in the villages and castles are illuminated shrouding the river and cliffs in mysterious light. The first rocket is fired from a ship and the others are fired from the surrounding castles, creating fantastic images across the cliffs and sky.
