The largest sport event in Germany over the past decades was the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany™ from June 9 to July 9, 2006. Thirty-two teams fought for the desired FIFA World Cup Trophy. Matches took place at twelve different venues including, in Rhineland-Palatinate Kaiserslautern. The Fritz Walter Stadium on the legendary Betzenberg, housed the matches of the group pairings and the quarterfinals.
